Role of the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus in anxiety disorders

چکیده

The hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) expresses multiple neuropeptides and plays an essential role in several physiological processes. Among the brain areas directly projecting to PVN are deep structures closely related instinctive behavior. Moreover, neurons can project abundant axons downstream regions key components of stress response. Accordingly, malfunction is implicated stress-related psychiatric diseases. When facing stressors, releases into pituitary, activating hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenocortical axis regulate blood pressure, energy metabolism, electrolyte balance. This review summarizes functions PVN-related neural circuits neuropeptides, as well their anxiety, which may provide insights mechanism disorders assisting development new treatments.

Cardiovascular Responses to Chemical Stimulation of the Hypothalamic Arcuate Nucleus in the Rat: Role of the Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus

The mechanism of cardiovascular responses to chemical stimulation of the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus (ARCN) was studied in urethane-anesthetized adult male Wistar rats. At the baseline mean arterial pressure (BLMAP) close to normal, ARCN stimulation elicited decreases in MAP and sympathetic nerve activity (SNA). The decreases in MAP elicited by ARCN stimulation were attenuated by either gamma-...

Local oxytocin tempers anxiety by activating GABAA receptors in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus.

Oxytocin (Oxt) is released in various hypothalamic and extrahypothalamic brain areas in response to anxiogenic stimuli to regulate aspects of emotionality and stress coping. We examined the anxiolytic action of Oxt in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) while appraising if Oxt recruits GABA neurons to inhibit the behavioral, hormonal, and neuronal response to stress in female prairie...

Hypothalamic Paraventricular Nucleus Modulates Sympathetic Excitation

Aldosterone stimulates the sympathetic nervous system by binding to a select population of brain mineralocorticoid receptors (MR). These MR have an equal affinity for corticosterone that is present in substantially higher concentrations, but are held in reserve for aldosterone by activity of the enzyme 11 -hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 (11 -HSD-2), which converts corticosterone to an inac...

the analysis of the role of the speech acts theory in translating and dubbing hollywood films

Orexin depolarizes rat hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus neurons.

Orexins, also called hypocretins, are newly discovered hypothalamic peptides that are thought to be involved in various physiological functions. In spite of the fact that orexin receptors, especially orexin receptor 2, are abundant in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN), the effects of orexins on PVN neurons remain unknown. Using a whole cell patch-clamp recording technique, we inves...
